Board #95 Honors George B. "Pete" Sheehan
The 2007-2008 season marks the 55th year of George B. "Pete" Sheehan's membership in IAABO. He first joined
IAABO as a member of Eastern Massachusetts District Board #27 and in 1959, he was one of the charter members
of Board #95, and has served as Board President during the 1955-1956 season. In 1971, he was elected Board
Secretary-Treasurer and has served in that capacity since - his 37th term in office. Pete's career has been
long and distinguished both while refereeing on the court, and by his long dedication to improving IAABO.
In addition to his service and devotion to Board #95, Pete was very instrumental in the formation of the
Massachusetts State Basketball Officials Board and he was elected the 2nd State Board President. He has
been a delegatefrom Board #95 every year since 1977 - the Board's inception. On the international level,
Pete has been a most active and vocal member. He has attended every IAABO meeting since 1965 and is
recognized as one of IAABO's most diligent and loyal workers - as a result, he was appointed to various
IAABO committees. He has served on the Audit-Budget Committee for 26 years, being Chairman during the
1981-1982 season. He was a member of the Membership Developing Committee for six years, Chairman during
the 1978-1979 and 1980-1981 seasons. He has been a member of the Constitution Committee for 20 years and
has also served as a member of most all IAABO Committees.
Pete was appointed to the prestigious Organizational Master Plan (OMP) and served two years as Chairman - the
last being the year the OMP program was adopted. He installed 12 IAABO regions that presently control the
make up of the IAABO Executive Committee. He has served as Chairman of the Secretary's round table for seven
years and is acting as Advisor to three IAABO standing committees. He was recognized by the IAABO family for
his long and devoted dedication and was elected President during the 1990-1991 season. He is still recognized
as one of the most influental members of the IAABOin history and his support is sought by office seekers.
Pete was elected an IAABO Life Member in 1982, the youngest member ever elected to this very prestigious honor -
which is reserved for not more than seven members per year. He was also a member of the CBOA for ten years and
was elected a CBOA Honorary Life Member in 1995. He is also a Life Member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of
Fame.
President Tony DiFraia, with the support of all past and present members of Greater Lowell Board #95, congratulate
Pete on all his IAABO accomplishments including his 55 year membership. We proudly dedicate this year's season
to him.
